Like my shielding friends they’re still isolated. We’re still riding through our own waves, No matter what’s happening with the number of cases I’m afraid so I stay home, I lay low, I say no. Okay, you want the truth? I’m still terrified. Why does it feel like we’re going backwards, Yeah, my social skills have gone off the rails but…Īnd shaking hands with absolute strangersĪnd coughing once and thinking it’s COVID. That’s what everyone else seems to be doing.Īnd I should be grateful we’ve got our freedom back. But I’m trying to carry on as normal now. “That sort of desire for control, that anxiety - I don’t think you necessarily have to have OCD to be anxious ,” they said. “I can’t tell where my OCD ends,/ and ‘acceptable’ COVID anxiety begins,” she said in a line that nods to how the public health crisis has played into her obsessive-compulsive disorder “big time.” In her poem, she’s direct, saying she’s still terrified and wary of crowded places. One of the biggest things to come out of the pandemic for Gardosi was honesty. Oh, gosh, what’s this isolation doing to me?’” ‘Gosh, I’m an introvert! Yes, gosh, I’m starting to question my gender identity. “There’s a whole other kettle of fish when you’re realizing things about yourself. “It means that you have a lot of time to really figure out who you are,” they said. ![]() The past two years have been marked by loss and tragedy, Gardosi said, “but it’s also been a time of connection for me as well.” We’ve had a lot of time to reflect, she added. (In all, Gardosi and Stringer, stabilizing a single GoPro camera in the same car, did about six takes.)Īt a certain point in Gardosi’s recitation, the sense of control melts away, as the roller coaster spins in circles. “I feel like a roller coaster is a whole form of its own,” she said.Īfter choreographing the poem to the ride’s “journey,” Gardosi was a little scared she’d forget the memorized words mid-way through the ride. It often fits into a three-minute window, and it reaches a climax at two minutes and 30 seconds. Instead, Gardosi wrote the composition to be timed with the roller coaster’s own ups, downs, twists and turns.Ī slam poem is a roller coaster in itself, Gardosi said. The poem wasn’t written before West Midland Safari Park in Worcestershire, England, granted them permission to film. A spoken-word poet and beatboxer, they’re often thinking how to push the performance element as much as possible, blending it with music or some type of movement. She worked with filmmaker Paul Stringer to produce the video. Earle, a friend and fellow poet, egged her on to finally put prose to a roller coaster - in an emotional and literal sense - Gardosi got her “pipe dream” right on track. Eventually, the emergence of effective vaccines did puncture the dread, but then came the news of waning immunity. Caseloads and deaths continue to fall and rise, followed by mask mandates and other restrictions. The global emergency ushered in nearly two years of whiplash - and counting. But there needed to be a reason, a subject worthy of riding a theme-park attraction.Īnd then the coronavirus pandemic happened - and kept happening. Jasmine Gardosi always wanted to perform a poem on a roller coaster. ![]() There are allusions to the roots of his solo material (the funky bassline and Lauryn Hill sample of “Believe What I Say”), leaps forward in his decades-long mission to perfect the happy medium between gospel and secular music (“Lord I Need You”, “Pure Souls”), and then the kind of stadium-rap anthems that have made Kanye West live shows some of the most consistently can’t-miss events of his era (“Hurricane”, “Praise God”). All the theatre, intentional or not, makes the case for Kanye West as one of the most skilled musical architects alive.ĭonda is lush and expansive with a consistent gospel undertone, West seemingly including everything and everyone he’s enjoyed over the course of his illustrious career. ![]() ![]() But while announced release dates came and went and became something of a guessing game among fans, the content of the actual final product was rarely in doubt: a 27-track opus that encapsulates nearly all of the music he played over the course of the IRL previews, including multiple versions of several songs.Īs presented over the course of his three stadium events (at Atlanta’s Mercedez-Benz Stadium and Chicago’s Soldier Field), Donda was continuously evolving, with West seemingly adding and removing celebrated guest appearances, adjusting sequencing and futzing with the project’s sonics until the very last minute. Depending on which school of thought you subscribe to, the release of Kanye West’s 10th solo album Donda was either a series of false starts or ingenious promotion by way of three separate stadium-filling Apple Music-exclusive listening events that served to give fans deeper insight into West’s creative process and aesthetic vision. ![]() In many ways, The Evil Within 2 is vastly different from its predecessor, and due to that, it’s often better off for it. If you had played the first entry, you’ll notice how widely different this game’s initial impressions are, as well as the environmental areas and incredible atmosphere, which is oozing with tension. Taking a different kind of approach for the series, the game lets you run loose early on. Stealth plays a major part in the game, and taking out zombies efficiently and quietly will go a long way towards your success. On top of that, with the various enemies scattered throughout the game in different areas, you’ll want to conserve as much ammo as you can. This isn’t necessarily in regards to their difficulty, but because you’ll want to make sure you’re not alerting other zombies in the area. This is a game where you’ll want to approach it with a clear plan in mind when it comes to the zombies specifically. ![]() Though the game might not be littered with zombies in the sense that many of these other titles are, the threats they pose in The Evil Within 2continue to grow throughout. The constant threat that human players and zombies were able to produce at all times added a continued sense of dread that made whatever moments of respite that you might have found all the more welcome. It’s absurd to even write about but it truly was exhilarating making your way through this world with nothing to start, and slowly building up your inventory. So much of DayZ is about the experience of wandering around the world and dealing with zombies in hopes that you’d somehow be able to find an item like a can of beans in a grocery store. Like many great zombie games, they weren't the only obstacle, as you'd have to keep a close eye on your fellow players as well. Mixing together elements like resource management from classic survival horror games, and the exploration of open-world titles, DayZ had a bit of everything for all types of players. Before the standalone release even came out there was the ARMA 2 mod for the game, which is where its popularity really kicked off. Providing players with intense gameplay that acted as the perfect type of title to watch others play online, DayZ was hitting all the right notes. When Twitch was really starting to catch on in the early to mid-2010s, it felt like DayZ was one game that everyone was talking about. |
